I am sharing my journey in learning Effective Marketing Video Strategies and marketing in general that I have used for my content creation and generating leads. It's been quite a ride, but I've gained so much knowledge and experience along the way.
In this blog post, I'll share insights and tips on marketing video strategies for your business and some general marketing strategies that have worked for me. Whether you're a marketer or content creator, I hope you'll find this post informative and helpful.
Things I wish I knew before starting my business.
Learning about marketing video strategies and marketing in general has been a time-consuming journey for me. It has required a lot of research, trial and error, and continuous learning.
I have had to dedicate significant time to studying and implementing different marketing techniques to determine what works best for me. However, despite the time commitment, the knowledge and experience I have gained have been invaluable in helping me market my business.
Looking back on my journey of learning about marketing video strategies and marketing in general, I realize that I could have benefited from more patience and planning for the long haul.
Be aware of planning fallacy.
Planning fallacy is a cognitive bias in which individuals tend to underestimate the time and resources required to complete a task or achieve a goal. This bias can lead to missed deadlines, cost overruns, and other negative outcomes.
In the context of marketing, planning fallacy can be particularly problematic as marketers are often under pressure to deliver results quickly and efficiently.
In plain english I have learned that everything takes more time than you think, and planning for that in your marketing strategy is crucially important. I am in the camp of aspiring to have better systems vs. having date-related goals.
"Everything takes more time than you think."
Since I stopped thinking I should have achieved X goal by some random arbitrary date and started to focus on my process, the results are visible and more importantly. I have started to enjoy the process.
Rushing into things without proper planning can lead to mistakes and setbacks that many aspiring content creators and business owners could have avoided with a more patient and strategic approach.
So, if you're starting in marketing, my advice would be to take your time, research, plan for the long haul, and again, it bears repeating, enjoy the process. Ultimately, a more effective and successful marketing strategy will pay off.
The follower count does not matter as much as you think.
When it comes to generating leads, the size of your audience matters less than you think. Even if you have a small number of views on your videos, you can still start generating leads. What matters more is the quality of your content and your audience's engagement.
Be aware that engagement goes way beyond likes and comments. It may be a call to action to click links or email signups, among other Key Performance Indicators you prefer. The comments on social media can be radio silence and generate leads. More on that later.
Creating valuable content that resonates with your target audience can attract the right people to your brand and build relationships with them. It's important to remember that every lead counts, no matter how small, as they can turn into loyal customers over time.
So, instead of focusing on the size of your audience, focus on creating content that provides value and engages your viewers. With time and consistency, your audience will grow, and your lead-generation efforts will pay off.
It's worth noting that some brands with small audiences make much money, just as some with large audiences need monetization help. So, keep going if your audience is smaller than you'd like. Instead, Aim to build a community and make superfans. You can turn a small but engaged audience into a profitable one with persistence. My friend Alejandra Baiz, a painter, has multiple income streams with around 4,800 Followers on Instagram.
Generating Leads with a small audience
I recently had a great experience generating leads with the Amazon Affiliate Program using a video about the Canon R10. Despite having just 40 views on the video, I got 24 clicks on the affiliate link. I made sure to highlight the features of the Canon R10 that my audience would find most valuable and relevant.
Doing so attracted people who would be interested. Every lead counts, no matter how small, and with time and persistence. So, if you're looking to generate leads for your brand, focus on providing value and engaging your viewers, and keep going if your audience is smaller than you'd like it to be.
Collaborations more important than SEO
Don't get me wrong, In today's digital age, SEO optimization is crucial for increasing the visibility of your videos and attracting more leads.
By incorporating relevant keywords into your video titles, descriptions, and tags, you can improve your chances of appearing in search results and reaching a wider audience. However, while SEO is undoubtedly important, it's not the only factor determining your videos' success.
Collaborating with other content creators can be just as important, if not more so, than SEO optimization. By working with creators who share your target audience, you can benefit from their existing fan base and introduce your brand to new people. Moreover, collaborations can bring a fresh perspective to your content, making it more engaging and valuable to your viewers.
One recent success story I'm proud to share involves a video collaboration I did with influencer Luann Ros. By teaming up with someone, I reached more people on our joint video on her YouTube Channel. Luann has over 200,000 Followers on Instagram; however, she is starting to build her YouTube Channel. Not only did this boost my visibility as a personal branding videographer, but it also elevated my portfolio to new heights. You can watch the video below.
It's the best artistic video that I have done at the moment of writing this blog post. This is just one example of how collaborations can be a game-changer in growing your audience and creating more impactful content. While SEO optimization is essential, consider the power of working with like-minded creators to take your videos to the next level.
The Benefits of Email Marketing
Another aspect of things more important than SEO is my email list. This is another strategy that is better than relying solely on algorithms. As a personal branding videographer, I have a small email list that I am working on growing.
I must stay connected with my audience and ensure that the right people see my content. By increasing my email list, I can contact subscribers directly and inform them about new videos, collaborations, and other exciting updates.
This approach helps build trust and loyalty among my followers, which is essential for creating a thriving community. While algorithms can help boost visibility, I remember the power of email marketing and other direct communication strategies to help me grow my audience and stay connected with my fans, especially since my list is small.
Do not do Everything, Everywhere, all at once.
Everything, Everywhere all at once is a fantastic movie but leave being everywhere at the same time to Michell Yeoh. Regarding video and other marketing strategies, it can be easy to get caught up in trying to do everything at once. However, it's crucial to prioritize the strategies that will genuinely make a difference in moving your brand forward. This means focusing on the most impactful strategy or offering compounding benefits over the long run.
It's also important to remember that only some strategies will work for some brands. What works for one person may not work for another. So, take the time to experiment and find the strategies that work best for your unique brand and audience.
In conclusion, taking a strategic approach to video and other marketing strategies is essential for building a successful brand. By prioritizing the most impactful strategy, offering compounding benefits over time, and experimenting to find what works best for your unique brand and audience, you can build a strong foundation for your business and achieve long-term success. Remember to stay focused, patient, and true to your brand's values and mission. I wish you the best!
